About

We love legends, myths and tales ; we love poetry, songs and chants from days gone by.

Many stories have been told and many more are yet to come. All of them are wonderful worlds in which we can get lost for ages. They are about the rise and fall of heroes, the foundation and ruin of cities, the chasing of chimeras, secrets unsealed, betrothal and betrayals. They are testimonies of what mattered the most to those who told them.

The more ancient the stories are, the more important they were to people of their era: to have sailed for so many revolutions as to finally reach us, they needed both the purest of intents and the strongest of vessels. Those vessels are codices, books, or rolls, made from the highest quality materials entrusted to the most skilled of the craftsmen, so eventually they would pass the trial of time.

I believe that books can tell as much of a story as the words they harbor. Time takes its toll on them, scratching their cover, breaking their spine, bleeding their ink, and eating their pages. Stories can be rewritten into brand new supports to be passed onto further legacies ; but books themselves can only be repaired up to a point.
Those shipwrecked vessels are relics of reveries.

Who I am

My name is Julien, and I'm the craftsman behind Relics-of-Reveries. I always had a fascination for the ancient, what abides just beyond reach, that rose higher than mountains and fell to naught. I like grand storytelling and epic poetry ; even more so when lesser words have the bluntest of impacts.

I started leatherworking as a hobby, which somehow turned to bookbinding. Therefrom, I found something that really moved me, and into which I could infuse my transports ; I could make things that felt true to me.

I quit my day job in 2022 and set up a dedicated workshop.

My secret acolyte

I have a secret acolyte !
She helps me a lot for designing stunning books covers, as well as for creating this website's graphics.
